At Advanced, we recognise that an effective system management plan facilitates the optimum delivery of IT Services and allows an organisation’s employees to be agile in their response to business requirements as they change. Within these services, we take responsibility for architecting and managing your IT infrastructure and operations. There are 12 major processes commonly associated with infrastructure management. Understanding which processes are generally strategic and which are usually tactical helps anticipate their necessary interactions.

CHALLENGES
Integrating new tech
Pressure from the board to work with specific new technologies, can lead to highly challenging integration with your current ecosystem, especially without the support of a partner.
Distributed environments
As IT ecosystems become more diverse, with many organisations operating hybrid systems, the management of technology is complicated.
Skills gap
A skills gap could be encountered if and when new problems occur which could result in issues not being resolved within current Service Level Agreements.

FEATURES & BENEFITS
-
Strategic processes
All of these processes have tactical aspects. However, the significant value of each lies more in its strategic attributes. These activities generally require months to plan and deliver, tending to be ‘long-range’ in nature, with a focus of around three years.
Production acceptance
This methodology is used to consistently and successfully deploy application systems into a production environment, regardless of the platform.
Capacity planning
This involves estimating the Data Centre floor space, cooling, hardware, software and connection infrastructures, as well as Cloud computing resources.
Strategic security
Strategic security is based in advanced threat, vulnerability and risk assessment techniques that are imperative to establishing effective security programs.
Disaster recovery
This involves a set of policies being implemented alongside tools and procedures to enable the recovery or continuation of vital infrastructure and systems following an outage.
Facilities management
Monitoring and maintaining the physical environment where your IT infrastructure is located, whether that be on-premise, Advanced’s Data Centres, Microsoft’s Azure or Amazon Web Services.

Tactical processes
Some tactical processes contained strategic elements, so it is the nature of the activity that determines which it is. A tactical process is ‘Performance and Tuning’, which is a process that ensures your Key Performance Indicators, service levels and budgets are in compliance with the organisation’s goals.
Availability management
This process aims to define, analyse, plan, measure and improve all aspects of the availability of IT Services. Needs are met through adherence to Service Level Agreements.
Change management
This ensures a systematic and pragmatic approach to dealing with change from the perspective of the organisation and the end user.
Problem management
This lays out the activities required to diagnose the root cause of incidents. We then determine the appropriate resolution steps that should be taken, calling out who is responsible for what.
Storage management
Establishing and managing procedures, services and standards for managing storage infrastructure and third-party Cloud storage services.
Network management
The provision of WAN, LAN and WiFi connections to keep your organisation functioning online. Our networks are monitored and managed through our 24x7x365 Network Operations Centre.
Configuration management
The detailed recording and updating of information about your hardware and software. Without this intelligence, managing your IT becomes increasingly complex and your technology underperforms.
