As a registered training organisation (RTO) operating under ASQA, TAFE Queensland must be able to demonstrate that it measures and manages the literacy, numeracy and digital skills of its students. With learners ranging from sixteen-year-olds still at school to adults starting a vocational qualification for the first time, TAFE Queensland needed a way to assess these skills that was simple enough for every learner to use, regardless of age or prior experience with technology. The organisation also needed a solution flexible enough to support students at different points in their journey, whether that was before enrolment, at the point of enrolment, or on campus, and one that could keep pace with evolving requirements such as the more recent addition of digital literacy to the vocational education framework.

TAFE Queensland has partnered with OneAdvanced for seven years, using the BKSB platform to meet its literacy, numeracy and digital skills assessment requirements. The dashboard is built to be simple and intuitive, allowing students, not education professionals, to complete their required assessments and then use the results to guide their own learning. Because BKSB can be accessed anywhere, at any time, TAFE Queensland can offer the tool at whichever stage suits the student best, whether that is pre-enrolment, at enrolment, or in person at a campus or training facility. As new requirements have emerged, such as the introduction of a digital literacy component roughly twelve months ago, OneAdvanced has worked to keep the BKSB product current, so TAFE Queensland can continue to meet its regulatory obligations as they evolve.

Seven years into the partnership, BKSB continues to give TAFE Queensland a straightforward way to assess and support learners across a huge range of ages and abilities. Students are able to move through their required assessments with ease, then return to the platform throughout their studies to focus on the areas where they need the most support. The flexibility of the platform means it fits around the way TAFE Queensland students actually learn, whether they are completing assessments before they even enrol or as part of their ongoing coursework on campus. As national conversation grows around literacy and digital skills standards, TAFE Queensland is well placed with a tool that is already trusted by students and built to adapt alongside changing requirements.
