Agreement builds on OneAdvanced’s work to embed sovereign, secure, sector-focused AI in the flow of work across critical UK services

Birmingham, UK – 5 August 2026OneAdvanced today announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with London-based AI laboratory Cosine, joining a landmark industry coalition co-designing Lumen Sovereign, the UK’s first fully sovereign frontier AI model for highly regulated and essential service sectors.

Lumen Sovereign is being designed for use across critical sectors of the UK where foreign-hosted AI is unusable or unacceptable based on security, governance or operational requirements.

As a pioneer of UK data residency and sovereign-by-design AI, OneAdvanced will take an active role in the development of Lumen Sovereign, due for release later this year, by identifying use cases, defining operational and workflow requirements, developing real-world test scenarios and providing deployment feedback. We will use our expertise to explore applications across healthcare, government, education, care, social housing, legal, wholesale & logistics and passenger transport.

The MoU acknowledges the work we at OneAdvanced are doing to move AI beyond experimentation and into practical use directly in the flow of work for our customers.

Our software is already used by organisations in the UK’s most highly regulated and essential service sectors. Within healthcare alone, our technology supports more than 40 million NHS patients across NHS 111, GP practices and trusts.

Other organisations forming part of the coalition include BAE Systems, Babcock International Group, BT, Era4, HSBC, Leonardo, Lloyds Banking Group, LSEG, NatWest Group, PwC, Telefónica Tech UK&I, Thales UK, The Alan Turing Institute and Vodafone.

Backed by the UK Government’s £500 million Sovereign AI Programme, Lumen Sovereign will be trained using the Isambard supercomputer in Bristol, one of Europe’s most powerful supercomputers.

Alistair Pullen, Co-founder & CEO of Cosine, said:

"We're building Lumen Sovereign because we think the UK needs frontier AI it can actually control: where the model runs, what data trained it, who can audit it. That only works if we build it alongside the organisations running the country's real, regulated infrastructure. OneAdvanced helps us achieve that goal. Their experience with the NHS, local government, education, and thousands of legal practices means they bring insights into the operational constraints a sovereign model needs to actually be useful."

Simon Walsh, Chief Executive Officer of OneAdvanced, added:

“We have long been advocating that sovereign AI is the safest, most secure way for UK organisations to leverage the transformative power of AI in their flow of work.  Through our work with NVIDIA to develop the UK’s first, sovereign, healthcare large language model trained on NHS primary care data to improve patient triage outcomes, we have seen first-hand the importance of combining advanced technology with deep sector knowledge, robust governance and a clear understanding of the workflows organisations rely on every day. That is why we are delighted to join the Lumen Sovereign coalition.

“Organisations in highly regulated and essential service sectors of the UK need AI that is not only powerful, but secure, trusted and designed around the realities of the environments in which it will operate. We look forward to working with Cosine and the wider coalition to help turn that ambition into practical capability.”
