CIPP National Payroll Week Roundup

by Nick Gallimore, Managing Director - People Management

Last week Advanced joined organisations across the country in celebrating the 21st national payroll week. This event, spearheaded by the Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals, is the perfect opportunity for businesses across all industries to come together and champion the hard work and dedication of the people who make payroll work within their organisation.

After the difficulties of the past year and a half, it is an understatement to say that payroll professionals have formed a crucial part of helping organisations remain agile and effective. Payroll is one of the most vital elements of keeping any business running and we think it’s important to take the time to champion the success of payroll teams within your organisation.

In honour of National Payroll Week, we wanted to throw ourselves into the celebrations. Starting at home, we sent out a video message giving thanks to our payroll team, as well as providing each team member with their own gift bag, thanking them for being payroll heroes. Next we wanted to champion the people who have placed their trust in us to look after pay in their organisation, which is why we sent out bundles of sweet treats to each of our existing payroll users.

The big theme of National Payroll Week is celebrating the payroll heroes in your business. Alongside our colleagues at Mitrefinch, we hosted a competition whereby organisations could nominate the hard working and influential payroll champions within their business, with the lucky winner receiving £200 worth of vouchers.

CIPP also launched their own awards for the week, allowing organisations to nominate individuals or systems which they feel are particularly influential in the field of payroll. We are honoured to say that Mitrefinch’s Flexipay solution has been shortlisted for an award and our own Julie Lock has also been shortlisted for the CIPP Excellence award.

Being as it is, a nationwide celebration of all things payroll- the week is also a fantastic opportunity to gain insights into the future of pay, as well as any other developments set to impact the sector. Over the course of the week, we published several pieces exploring the current state of payroll, as well as forecasting what the future may hold. Our Payroll engagement hub provided a daily stream of content, raising awareness around issues such as the work-life balance and the future of working habits. We’ve also cultivated a special Payroll themed Spotify playlist to help get you through the working week: try and guess some of the songs which feature on there- some are more obvious than others!

Our colleague Junaid, alongside our payroll team, took a look at The skills needed to shape your payroll career, offering a brilliant insight into the world of Payroll and the hard work and qualities demonstrated by pay professionals across all sectors.

In celebration of the week, CIPP hosted a range of talks delving into the state of payroll as an industry. Julie Lock, commercial director at Mitrefinch joined the CIPP and other influencers in the field of payroll for one such webinar, discussing the importance of innovation within payroll,

Overall, it’s been a bit of an action packed week! Wherever you are, I hope you took the opportunity last week to say thank you to the people within your business who help make pay work. We’re firm believers in the power of payroll to help businesses remain happy, productive and engaged and we think a big part of that comes from showing some love to the payroll professionals who work tirelessly every day within your organisation.

We hope you enjoyed this brief roundup of what went down for us during National Payroll Week. Advanced would love to hear from you and your business and to find out exactly how you celebrated.
