Alex Arundale

“There are many misconceptions and stereotypes surrounding IT and tech that can deter people from entering an exciting and rewarding industry. But if you’ve ever thought that something doesn’t work well and could be more efficient or simple, then you have the potential to work in tech! Our industry is all about finding innovative ways of doing things and looking at challenges afresh. The last time I checked, the only requirement for this was talent – not gender.”

Charlotte Dawes

Events Executive

How long have you worked at Advanced?
Since May 2017

What steps did you take to get your role?
I originally applied for a sales role at Advanced, however the recruitment team advised that I would be better suited to a role in Marketing. After a year in the Market Insights team, I moved into the role of Events Executive where I’ve worked for the last 5 months.

What is your favourite thing about working for Advanced?
The opportunity to work across a range of different sectors and interacting with teams both internally and externally. I also find the marketing team to be very supportive of each other and my personal development.

What advice would you give to someone who is considering a career in tech?
Be open-minded- as Advanced offers a variety of different roles which you may not have already considered, and can provide a good platform to build a career from.

Senior Product Marketing Executive

How long have you worked at Advanced?
Since June 2017

What steps did you take to get your role?
I was coming to the end of my Masters so started applying for different Entry Level roles, completely open to where I ended up. I came to an Assessment Centre at Advanced, and afterwards was offered the role of Product Marketing Executive for IT Services – I had no idea what that meant at the time, but since finding out, I like it!

What is your favourite thing about working for Advanced?
The people. There’s an environment of people caring, wanting to get along with each other and being helpful. Coming into a role that I hadn’t even heard of before I got it, that has been invaluable to my growth and the quality of my work.

What advice would you give to someone who is considering a career in tech?
Be completely open. Fantastic if you have an area already that you’re especially interested in (I love services now), but there are so many different roles available and areas for learning that you probably won’t even know about until you’re working in the industry. If you’re open, then lots of opportunities will come your way. I had no idea I’d ever work in tech and yet I’m now holding meetings with Microsoft around webinars and content creation!
