OneAdvanced AI Agents could save the NHS £75 million a year according to new report

A new report by OneAdvanced reveals how two AI Agents within GP Workflow Assistant have the potential to save the NHS £75.3 million annually and free up the equivalent of 150,000 additional GP appointments every week if adopted nationally.

General practice is facing an unparalleled level of pressure. With demand continually rising, an ever-growing administrative burden, and fewer resources at hand, GP teams are finding it increasingly difficult to focus on what matters most; delivering the best possible patient care.

But this is where artificial intelligence (AI) offers a way forward.

Our Clinical Coding Agent and Clinical Summarisation Agent are designed to reduce the administrative burden on general practice teams head on, streamlining routine processes, accelerating decision-making, and empowering teams to reclaim valuable clinical time.

By adding automation to repetitive, error-prone, or manual tasks, OneAdvanced’s AI Agents are helping to support higher efficiency, and improved job satisfaction—a combination desperately needed across primary care.

The real impact for practices and patients

In the AI in GP Workflow Report, OneAdvanced found that early use in 143 practices of the AI Agents has already shown measurable productivity gains, with 95% of users reporting improved workflows.

And if the sector were to scale up nationally, these AI Agents could generate £75.3 million in annual productivity savings across the NHS — equivalent to releasing around 150,000 additional patient appointments per week.

Plus, by reducing manual workload, practices benefit from:

  • Time savings – freeing up clinical and admin staff for higher-value tasks.
  • Greater consistency – reducing variability in coding and filing.
  • Improved workflow’s – ensuring urgent information is highlighted and acted on quickly.

Building on the trusted foundation of GP Document Workflow (formally Docman)

OneAdvanced’s GP Document Workflow is already the national standard for managing clinical documents in over 2,500 GP practices. The addition of GP Workflow Assistant’s AI Agents represents the next stage in helping GPs handle the growing volume of correspondence safely, accurately, and efficiently.

The two new Agents already live are:

  • Clinical Coding Agent – suggests accurate SNOMED codes, flags QOF entries, and alerts users to duplicates, improving coding quality and consistency.
  • Clinical Summarisation Agent – extracts key details such as diagnoses, urgency, medications, and next steps, presenting a concise summary for review and one-click filing.

Both work exclusively within GP Document Workflow, requiring no new systems, downtime, or integrations.

Clinician-led innovation

GP Document Workflow has been at the heart of general practice for decades, and GP Workflow Assistant represents the next step in that journey,” said Ric Thompson, Senior Vice President of Health & Care at OneAdvanced. “By embedding AI Agents into the system practices already rely on and trust, we’re giving GPs the tools to work smarter, not harder – delivering measurable benefits to both the NHS and patients.

Dr Paul Wright, Medical Director and Chief Clinical Information Officer at OneAdvanced, and practising GP, added; “As a GP, I know first-hand the strain practices are under with rising demand and growing admin. These Agents were built with clinicians to ensure they genuinely ease workload. Assisting the end user with the process of coding and summarising correspondence means we can spend more time with patients, and less time on paperwork.

This exclusive report demonstrates the critical need to address the administrative burdens and inefficiencies the sector tackles every single day.

We’re uncovering, with compelling evidence, that AI is no longer a buzzword. It’s a practical, tested solution that is already delivering results.
