AI already delivering millions in savings for UK fleet operators

That was the takeaway message from a recent keynote speech given by Adrian West (VP of Retail, Wholesale, Logistics & Manufacturing) at the Road Haulage Association Future Forum. AI is already helping operators to cut costs, boost driver performance, and is enabling smarter operational decisions.

Adrian told delegates that AI is no longer a theoretical tool but a practical, proven asset that is boosting margins and unlocking new revenue opportunities - using data that operators already have at their fingertips. He outlined how AI is “unlocking value and giving people the freedom to focus on more strategic work”.

In a live example, Adrian showed how AI could review telematic data from 20 drivers and 15 vehicles to flag the three poorest-performing individuals based on harsh braking, aggressive acceleration, and excessive idling, generating poor safety scores. Within seconds, the platform identified the problem drivers, compared their scores against the wider fleet, and delivered tailored coaching recommendations for each, all in a concise, actionable format.

The same system, when asked to predict vehicle maintenance risks, analysed historical fuel consumption trends and identified two vehicles likely to develop efficiency or reliability issues the following month.

Motor Transport published an in-depth article covering Adrian’s speech. Read it in full here.
