For housing associations, the mobile workforce is a critical component of service delivery – whether working in the field on maintenance and repairs, or delivering domiciliary care.
However, a recent OneAdvanced report has revealed a stark disconnect between the perceptions of the mobile workforce and leadership teams. Key differences arise in both workload and communication.
While 42% of middle managers believe employee workload is manageable, only 25% of mobile workers agree. Similarly, 96% of executive leaders say their staff are kept informed about key operational changes, yet just 58% of mobile workers feel the same.
These gaps present real risks for social housing providers, where effective service delivery depends on seamless operations and collaborative efforts. A lack of clarity around operations can lead to low morale and, ultimately, staff leaving the workforce – an especially pressing issue in a sector already grappling with high attrition rates.
Maintenance and repairs teams: The right tools for the job
The right technology can have a transformative impact on the mobile workforce, enabling them to perform their roles with greater confidence and efficiency. For maintenance and repair teams, Dynamic Resource Scheduling software can provide real-time updates on customer visits, operational changes, and route optimisation – saving time by finding the best route to work and providing clarity on the day ahead.
Having access to up-to-date information is essential. When schedules change or urgent jobs arise, mobile workers need to be informed instantly. Dynamic Resource Scheduling ensures that field staff are not only aware of their next job but are equipped with the right tools and information to complete it efficiently. This reduces downtime, improves first-time fix rates, and enhances the overall customer experience.
Supporting home care providers with the latest solutions
Communication is equally vital for home care providers, who often operate alone and need real-time updates on their customers’ health and wellbeing. OneAdvanced’s Care Management solution supports this by offering mobile access to care plans, health updates, and body maps. It also includes safety features such as location tracking, so care teams can confirm when a caregiver has arrived safely at a client’s home.
In addition, self-service tools empower care workers to manage their schedules, request annual leave, and view available shifts – giving them greater control over their work-life balance. This not only improves job satisfaction but also helps reduce turnover in a sector where continuity of care is crucial.
